PFT: Umenyiora 'fuming' over standoff with Giants

The Tim Tebow debate continues to rage, and it?s quickly becoming the most polarizing issue in the NFL.

ESPN?s Merril Hoge took to Mike & Mike in the Morning on Thursday to make a compelling and detailed case against Tebow?s ability to succeed at this level.

Hoge told Mike Greenberg and Adam Schefter that Tebow ?had no business? being drafted as a quarterback, and that he should have been a sixth-round or seventh-round draft pick at best. Hoge focused on the issue of Tebow?s looping delivery, which continues to emerge in moments of stress and duress.

?Just that alone drove Byron Leftwich to a backup position,? Hoge said.? ?Tim has that issue.? It?s never going to change.?

Hoge also pointed to accuracy problems, which he said become even worse when Tebow is on the move, and which becomes even more pronounced when coupled with the looping delivery.? ?Those two are major, major issues, I have never seen overcome,? Hoge said.

Hoge also wisely pointed out that the Broncos, by making Tim Tebow a first-round pick in 2010, now have a ?political nightmare.?

Then there?s the issue of Tebow?s physical style of play.? Hoge fears that, in the NFL, Tebow won?t survive 16 games, given his belief that, for example, when the Broncos are near the end zone ?nobody runs the ball but me,? as microphones captured Tebow telling coaches last year against the Chargers.

At one point, Hoge pointed out an interesting comparison between Tebow and great college player turned NFL bust Brian Bosworth.? Hoge said that the hype surrounding guys like that will prompt opponents to play even harder against them.

Hoge acknowledged that Tebow could be a situational player, or a quarterback who could be hidden by a great defense and running game, but that Tebow could never be the guy who leads a team to a title.

Regardless of how it all plays out, Tebow?s NFL fortunes will continue to be one of the hottest topics in the NFL, probably until Tebow retires.

Ben Cardin and Daniel Bongino on the Issues (ContributorNetwork)

On Wednesday, former secret service agent Daniel Bongino announced he'll run against Sen. Benjamin Cardin, D-Md., during the mid-term elections. According to Bongino's website , he lives in Severna Park and was on the Presidential Protection Division during both the Bush and Obama administrations. He'll be running as a Republican. The incumbent Sen. Cardin is serving his first term in the Senate.

Following are a selection of quotes from the candidates, illustrating some of their policy differences.

* "I fully support the block granting of Medicaid funds to the States as was done for welfare reform, in bi-partisan fashion, under President Clinton and a Republican Congress in 1995. Block granting would immediately create 50 distinct laboratories of innovation, with the States free to experiment with new, more efficient methods for delivering real health-care to those in need." On the issues section of his Website, Bongino explains his support for Medicaid block granting.

* "We can -- and we must -- develop a credible deficit reduction plan that is comprehensive and considers all options. A credible budget plan, however, does not hurt the weakest, most vulnerable Americans. Unfortunately, the House of Representatives has passed a budget plan developed by Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin that I believe does just that by turning Medicare into a voucher program and Medicaid into a block grant program to the states." Cardin voicing his opposition to the so-called Ryan budget plan.

* "All 17 million of us who live in the watershed need to be part of the restoration effort," Cardin indicating that lawns are contributing to pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. He went on to suggest the problem wasn't the just the more widely publicized farm run-off and wastewater facilities, but "homeowners and businesses also need to be part of the solution by reducing the chemicals we put on our lawns and other green spaces."

* "We need to look at bold proposals such as leasing rights on public lands and waters with guaranteed access for our citizens. This has the potential to create profound incentives for a cleaner, healthier environment." Bongino explaining his views on the environment.

* "We must prioritize domestic production of our own natural resources by expanding permitting while maintaining reasonable environmental standards. Renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, biomass and geothermal have shown promise but need to compete in a competitive market, free from government subsidies. I believe that these sources of energy have a future in our future energy portfolio but they must compete on a level playing field." Bongino outlines his energy strategy.

* "Our nation must move to a more sustainable energy policy that lessens our dependence on foreign energy sources. It is in our national interest -- and national security -- to encourage alternative energy sources, including propane, as a way to move our economy forward and protect our environment. Propane is readily available and helps provide an alternative to imported oil." Cardin, commenting on a bill he'd introduced to encourage propane use an alternative energy. He is a member of Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.
