Canada, Eh?: Cory Monteith

Cory Monteith

It is with a heavy heart and heavy hand that I write this week?s edition of Canada, Eh? In the early hours of Sunday morning news broke that Cory Monteith (31), the young and much loved star of ?Glee?, had been found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver. I have had Monteith?s name down in my little folder of ?Canadian stars I love? for a while now. I usually go through and pick names almost at random for these weekly pieces, but this time I think it is only right to pay respect to a young man who touched the hearts of so many of his fans during his short career. I hope that this piece will stand as a tribute to his accomplishments and celebrate his life.

Cory Monteith as a babyCory Allan Michael Monteith was born on May 11th, 1982 in the bustling city of Calgary, Alberta. Monteith?s mother, Ann, was an interior decorator and his father, Joe, a military man. When his parents divorced Monteith was seven years old, and the split forced him and his brother, Shaun, to leave their home town and move to Victoria, British Columbia. After this, Monteith found that he had an increasingly hard time fitting in in school and was constantly getting into trouble. By age 13, Monteith was coping with his struggles with alcohol and marijuana. At age 16, and 16 schools later, Monteith dropped out of school. His drugs and alcohol addictions only increased and petty crimes and stealing were added to his list of misdemeanors. The turning point for Monteith came at the age of 19, when his friends and family came together in support of him and helped him to be entered into rehab.

Monteith has openly discussed his past problems with addiction, having said in an interview with Parade magazine in 2011 ?I don?t want kids to think it is okay to drop out of school and get high, and they?ll be famous actors, too. ? But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it. If I can, anyone can.? Monteith took his experiences as a troubled youth and put them to good use in his adult life. Monteith regularly volunteered and worked with at risk and homeless youth, encouraging his fans to do the same. When Monteith hosted the Gemini Awards in Toronto in 2010 he spoke openly about his passion for helping at risk youth and pushed for a National Youth Homelessness Awareness Day in Canada.

Cory Monteith Glee Promo Shot

Monteith?s acting career began in Vancouver with many smaller parts. His first role came in 2004 on the television show ?Stargate: Atlantis? and for the next five years he appeared in guest roles on shows such as ?Smallville?, ?Supernatural? and ?Kyle XY?. Monteith even had a part in the film ?Final Destination: 3?, and more recently, in the Selena Gomez flick ?Monte Carlo?. The role which made him famous is of course that of Finn on the Fox musical comedy ?Glee?. Finn Hudson was the high school quarterback - - popular and good looking with the cheerleader girlfriend. An initial reluctance to join the school?s glee club is overcome, and he becomes one of the biggest stars of the show. A transformation from popular jock to less-than-popular ?gleek? is one that the character of Finn struggles with throughout the first few seasons. Monteith played his character with conviction and brought a loveable, innocent quality to the screen. This role brought Monteith chart-topping radio hits and sold-out stage shows that took him touring around the world with the rest of the ?Glee? cast.

Cory Monteith and Lea Michele

Monteith?s role on ?Glee? not only sky-rocketed his career but it led him to meeting the love of his life, his co-star Lea Michele (?Rachel Berry?). The pair shared and on-again off-again on screen romance and a much more stable real life romance. Michelle and Monteith were reportedly supposed to be getting married in two weeks, before the news of his death put an end to their lives together.

Monteith was a born and bred Canadian. He was a huge Vancouver Canucks fan and spent much of his time off from acting in Vancouver and in Canada in general. It was in his hotel room in Vancouver that Monteith spent the last moments of his life. Earlier this year, on March 30th, Monteith checked himself into a rehab facility for substance addiction. Although his role on ?Glee? was reduced, Monteith had the full support of the cast and crew of the series who said at the time ?Cory is a beloved member of the?Glee?family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment. Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return." A month later, Monteith checked out of rehab, taking to his Twitter?to say ?Sending out big love to everyone. Thank you for the continued support! It means the world to me!"

Cory Monteith Vancouver Canucks game

??Glee? is a show about the underdog in all of us. Monteith was a true definition of an underdog both on the screen and in his real life. He overcame immense adversity and personal demons to rise and become a role model for his fans. Cory Monteith is an actor that I will always be proud to say was Canadian.?

Ways To Use Internet Marketing For Your Business - recommended ...

Sunday, July 14th, 2013 at 12:06 pm ?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

TIP! It is vital to have a client mailing list. Put a sign-up on your web page, or require their email address in order to make a purchase.

When Web marketing is done correctly, it can mean new customers and provide a big boost to your business. You can attract new customers and interact with them in ways that were never possible before. Use this article?s advice to learn of all success you can have with Online marketing.

TIP! You should link your website everywhere you can. Include it at the bottom of every message board or forum posting, for example.

Solicit feedback whenever possible. This is very important to your business, as your perception of your prices and your site?s appearance might differ from the customer?s opinion. Get feedback from anyone you can, friends, family and potential clients. Take all of this information under advisement and make any necessary changes.

TIP! Before you start marketing online, you first need to brainstorm a variety of methods you may want to implement. Free or relatively inexpensive ways to advertise your site include hanging posters in community businesses, using social networking sites, or posting on blogs.

A great title tag should properly define you and your content. This tag will explain in a small blurb what your website is all about. An audience member will determine in a matter of seconds whether or not your website is worth their time based upon that tag. Having mismatched titles and information is one of the quickest ways to drive people away from your site.

TIP! Internet marketing is often most successful when your efforts fill another person?s needs. When you start your day, create a list of questions that need answering.

A regular blog keeps people thinking about your products. A frequently updated blog is a great way for you to reach customers, and provide them with information about your products. In addition, you will eventually attract more visitors to your website because you are, in effect, expanding the reach of your website and increasing your search engine rating.

TIP! Your Internet marketing efforts do not only have to be done on the Internet. For example, you can invite your advertisers and customers to an event you are hosting.

Keep AJAX and Flash use to a minimum. Though you may like the visual and interactive appeal, they do nothing for your search engine rankings. Flash can and should be used sparingly, and make it functional with navigational links and keywords.

TIP! Take advantage of email to improve your business. Grab your customers? interest by creating newsletters that inform and intrigue them.

Let?s consider something that can aid your online marketing efforts. Make your customers feel secure that they can feel perfectly safe entering their personal information on your website. Put a site-wide link to your privacy policy at the top right corner of your site. Doing so will provide visitors confidence that you conduct business in a safe manner. In addition, their identities are safe when buying from your website.

Video marketing is a great choice for Website marketing. Putting a video on your site attracts your customer?s interest. Name your video something clever, and make it unique.

TIP! Almost every cell carrier out there will allow you to have a dedicated phone number on the same device. It is important, therefore, that you take the necessary steps to get a number.

Web marketing should lead to further Website marketing. Using the Internet is like a cycle, in which users see your business, purchase from you, and then spread the word about your products.

TIP! One effective way to market your site is by having your customers subscribe to an Ezine. You can use this to develop an ongoing relationship with your customers.

Psychology research reports involving Web marketing and website design may be worth your time to read. Psychology can play a part in the way someone looks at your site, depending on a lot of different factors. Taking advantage of these subtleties can help you earn the most profits possible.

TIP! Make sure that you are constantly informed with all different aspects available to you via the Internet. The Internet is continuously changing, and it is changing quickly, so keeping up with all of the new innovations and popular websites can really help you to know what would be the best way to get your product more available to the public.

When shipping an order to a customer, be sure to include some type of free gift or sample, relative to the item sold. Clients really appreciate these types of coupons and often become repeat customers.

TIP! Third party security is crucial for all business websites that sell products. There are a number of great services you can use.

A CRM is an excellent way to maintain a database of all your customers who bought products from you. It can help you identify current and past customers, and their purchase patterns. You can use this to customize each communication with the customer that shows only things that they might be interested which helps them to purchase additional items.

TIP! The performance and appearance of your site is as important to a physical store buying experience. Take the time to frequently visit your website as a visitor and check for broken links, outdated information and other potential problems.

Gaining and keeping the trust of your customers is critical. Your marketing materials should not only be engaging and attractive but they should also be indisputably supported by facts. Promote your products using only factual testimonials and statistics.

TIP! A vital part of Internet marketing is ensuring that your website is setup for SEO purposes correctly, and the site contains engaging content that will keep customers interested. Simply using the same information, descriptions and graphics will simply let your website fade and it will not stand out to potential customers.

Try to encite emotions when your customers visit the site. Help the reader visualize how utilizing your product will make life better or easier for him or her. Try and make the customer feel like that by making a purchase on your site, they will see a significant change in their life.

TIP! It?s important that you appear to be a user-friendly business to your customers, and this means that you should think about getting the right type of error page (500 page). This happens when a code stops working for you.

Allow your customers to control the content that they get from you. Do not spam your readers with information they do not want or need. Make certain they know participating is actually an option and it will help your credibility.

TIP! Incorporate a ?chat? option within your company website so that visitors can exchange information and interact together. Allowing your customers the ability to communicate with each other on your site makes them enjoy visiting you more.

As you can deduce from reading the above article, Affiliate marketing is a powerful tool for customer outreach. But you can also utilize it too, for ongoing conversations with your customers. You will interact with your customers like never before. If you use these ideas, you will connect with customers and make a impact on the Internet promotion industry.

Factbox: Trials that captivated U.S. public over past decade

(Reuters) - Millions of Americans followed the televised trial of George Zimmerman, who was acquitted on Saturday of murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, a shooting death that sparked a national debate over race and gun rights. Here are 10 other trials that have gripped the American public in the past decade:

* Casey Anthony: Many television viewers were transfixed by the seven-week murder trial in 2011 of 25-year-old Casey Anthony, accused of the 2008 killing of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony initially told police the toddler had been kidnapped by a nanny, triggering a nationwide search. Six months later, the child's skeletal remains were found with duct tape dangling from her skull in woods near the young mother's Florida home. The jury found Anthony not guilty, sparing her a possible death penalty and triggering a public outcry.

* Conrad Murray: The late pop star Michael Jackson's personal doctor was accused of giving the "Thriller" singer a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol - normally used in surgery - that was ruled the main cause of the celebrity's death on June 25, 2009. His six-week trial captivated Jackson fans around the world. Prosecutors argued Murray was grossly negligent in administering the propofol to help Jackson sleep. Defense attorneys said Jackson delivered the fatal dose to himself. In November 2011, the jury found Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to a four-year prison term.

* Phil Spector: Another legal spectacle was the trial of Spector, an eccentric music producer, in the shooting death of Lana Clarkson, 40, a B-movie actress. Clarkson died of a shot to the mouth, fired from Spector's gun in the foyer of his home outside Los Angeles on February 3, 2003. The two met hours earlier at a Hollywood nightclub. The man once revered for revolutionizing pop music in the 1960s with his layered "Wall of Sound" production technique was found guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison in May 2009.

* Scott Peterson: Reporting his pregnant wife, Laci, missing from the home they shared in Modesto, California, on December 24, 2002, Peterson told police he had gone fishing in San Francisco Bay early that morning and returned to find her gone. Her body and that of her unborn child washed ashore the following April. In a sensational 2004 trial, prosecutors argued that the 40-year-old former fertilizer salesman had suffocated or strangled his wife on Christmas Eve or the night before and dumped her body in the bay, weighting it so it would not surface. A jury convicted him of murdering his wife and unborn son and sentenced him to death.

* Michael Jackson: The pop singer went on trial in 2005 on charges of molesting a 13-year-old boy in 2003, as well as conspiring to abduct the boy. The singer faced nearly 20 years in prison if convicted. Jackson abandoned his "Dangerous" world tour during the media frenzy over the allegations. The four-month trial ended in June 2005 with Jackson being acquitted of all charges.

* Martha Stewart: During a highly publicized six-week jury trial, the home design guru was accused of insider trading for her December 2001 sale of 4,000 shares of a pharmaceutical company's stock worth $79 million. She was convicted in 2004 on charges of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and making false statements, along with her stockbroker, Peter Bacanovic, who was convicted on four of five counts against him. Stewart served five months in prison and nearly six months of house arrest starting in October 2004.

* Rod Blagojevich: Television cameras were trained for months on the disgraced Illinois governor, including his impeachment trial proceedings and his trial on corruption charges for trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by then President-elect Barack Obama and for using his office to extort campaign contributions and jobs for himself and his wife. Blagojevich's arrest marked the start of a national campaign to proclaim his innocence, with appearances on television talk and entertainment shows, even as a contestant on Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice." Countless TV and radio interviews later, Blagojevich was convicted of multiple corruption counts and sentenced in December 2011 to 14 years in prison. Blagojevich became the fourth former Illinois governor to be convicted of criminal charges since 1973, and received the longest sentence.

* Lewis "Scooter" Libby: A former chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, Libby was on trial in a case that fueled debate over the Iraq war and revealed the inner workings of the White House under the George W. Bush administration. The trial sparked a national outcry over flawed intelligence on weapons of mass destruction, the failure to contain a violent insurgency, and prisoner abuses during the Iraq invasion. Libby ultimately was convicted of obstructing a CIA leak probe and was sentenced in 2007 to 30 months in prison. Bush later that year commuted Libby's sentence.

* Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling: In one of the most notorious white-collar trials of the past decade, former Enron Corp Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling was convicted in May 2006 of 19 counts of conspiracy, securities fraud, insider trading and lying to auditors for his role in maintaining a facade of success as Enron's $100 billion energy business crumbled. His 24-year prison term has been reduced and he could be free in 2017. Enron founder Kenneth Lay also was found guilty of multiple counts of conspiracy and fraud. He died of heart failure six weeks after the trial ended.

* John Allen Muhammad: Aided by a teenage accomplice, Gulf War veteran Muhammad carried out sniper sprees that killed 10 people and terrified many others in the Washington region in 2002. They had cut a hole in the back of a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice and fired rifle shots from the trunk of the car, authorities said. Muhammad shot people who were going about the ordinary tasks of daily life in places like gas stations, shopping mall parking lots and outside restaurants and schools, in attacks that garnered intense media coverage and spread panic in and around the U.S. capital a year after the September 11, 2001, attacks. Muhammad was convicted in 2003 and executed in 2009.

It will be Wisniewsky's return after over sixteen months away. The event takes place on September 4 from the Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
