Gordon?s BBQ Sauce ? used to glaze meat on the grill and as a Dipping Sauce
400 ml ketchup
200 gr brown sugar
100 ml red wine vinegar
4 tbsp honey
50 gr butter
1/2 small red chili
1/2 red onion
2/3 cloves of garlic
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
Simmer all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes. Blitz with a hand blender and ready for use.
Pork marinade (ideal for tenderloin)
1/2 onion, finely grated or chopped
1 bunch of fresh marjorem or oregano
1 chili, finely diced
10/12 cloves of garlic
3 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp salt
1 tbsp black pepper
6 cups of cold water
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Add the meat for at least 3 hours and up to 24 hours. (Refrigerate if the latter!)
Cider vinagrette to drizzle over carved pork
200 ml cider
2 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp cider vinegar
2 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp dijon mustard
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 20 mins, stirring occasionally. Use warm or cold.
Chilled pea and basil soup
1.25 kg frozen peas
350 gr potatoes
2 onions
1 stalk of celery
2.5 l vegetable stock
100 gr fresh basil
30 gr fresh mint
50 gr fresh parsley
salt and pepper to taste
Defrost the peas ? having the peas defrosted and adding them at the last moment helps the soup keep its colour. Put the stock, potatoes, onions and celery to boil. As soon as the potatoes are cooked remove them from the heat and add the peas, basil, mint and parsley. Blend and pass through a fine sieve and refrigerate.

Family fears for arrested Vietnam priest's health (AFP)
HANOI (AFP) ? The family of a Catholic priest who is one of Vietnam's best-known dissidents expressed concern over his health Tuesday following his re-arrest after more than a year of medical leave from jail.
Nguyen Van Ly, who is aged in his early 60s, was allowed to leave prison last year to seek treatment for a brain tumour, but was taken into custody again on Monday despite continuing health problems, relatives told AFP.
He had been serving an eight-year sentence after being convicted of propaganda against the state in 2007, a verdict that drew condemnation from diplomats and human rights groups.
His family has said he suffered three strokes in 2009.
"They arrested him although his health is not good," a relative told AFP. "He has not recovered from his illness. He can't walk well."
Vietnam News, the state's official English-language newspaper, reported his arrest on Tuesday, citing activities including distributing documents that opposed the government and inciting people to disturb security.
"Although the authorised agencies extended the time allotted for his treatment and reprimanded him many times, Ly continued to defy the law of the State of Vietnam," it said.
At his controversial trial, prosecutors said Ly was a founding member of the banned "Bloc 8406", considered by analysts as the first organised pro-democracy coalition inside the country.
During the case Ly yelled "Communist court!" and denounced the proceedings as the "law of the jungle" before a policeman covered his mouth with his hands.
More recently Ly has produced numerous emails calling for hunger strikes against the government and advocating a multi-party system.
Ly's arrest followed months of uncertainty over his sentence after the expiry of a one-year suspension of his prison term ordered by a court on March 15, 2010.
In early March this year, a government spokeswoman said Ly would be sent back to jail if his health returned to normal, but there was no official follow-up until he was re-arrested on Monday.
The relative said that Ly, who had been staying at a church compound in the Hue area of central Vietnam, was taken to Ha Nam prison near Hanoi.
His arrest happened just ahead of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's re-election for a second term on Tuesday, a development that activists fear heralds a tougher climate for dissidents in the one-party state.
Authorities separately announced Tuesday that a French-Vietnamese lecturer and blogger, arrested last year for an alleged subversion plot against the communist regime, will be tried on August 10 in the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City.
Pham Minh Hoang, who has dual nationality, faces a charge of "carrying out activities aimed at overthrowing the people's administration", said an official who refused to be named.
France's foreign ministry has voiced "serious concern" about the case.
Conviction on the charge, which has been used against other dissidents, could bring up to 15 years' imprisonment.

JUNEAU, Alaska ? A federal wildlife biologist whose observation in 2004 of presumably drowned polar bears in the Arctic helped to galvanize the global warming movement has been placed on administrative leave and is being investigated for scientific misconduct, possibly over the veracity of that article.
Charles Monnett, an Anchorage-based scientist with the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, or BOEMRE, was told July 18 that he was being put on leave, pending results of an investigation into "integrity issues." But he has not yet been informed by the inspector general's office of specific charges or questions related to the scientific integrity of his work, said Jeff Ruch, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.
On Thursday, Ruch's watchdog group plans to file a complaint with the agency on Monnett's behalf, asserting that Obama administration officials have "actively persecuted" him in violation of policy intended to protect scientists from political interference.
Monnett, who has coordinated much of the agency's research on Arctic wildlife and ecology, has duties that include managing about $50 million worth of studies, according to the complaint, a copy of which was provided to The Associated Press.
The complaint seeks Monnett's reinstatement along with a public apology from the agency and inspector general. It also seeks to have the investigation dropped or to have the charges specified and the matter carried out in accordance with policy. The complaint also says that investigators took Monnett's computer hard drive, notebooks and other unspecified items from him, which have not been returned.
A BOEMRE spokeswoman declined to comment on an "ongoing internal investigation." Ruch said BOEMRE has barred Monnett from talking to reporters.
Documents provided by Ruch's group indicate questioning by investigators has centered on observations that Monnett and fellow researcher Jeffrey Gleason made in 2004, while conducting an aerial survey of bowhead whales, of four dead polar bears floating in the water after a storm. They detailed their observations in an article published two years later in the journal Polar Biology; presentations also were given at scientific gatherings.
In the peer-reviewed article, the researchers said they were reporting, to the best of their knowledge, the first observations of polar bears floating dead offshore and presumed drowned while apparently swimming long distances in open water. Polar bears are considered strong swimmers, they wrote, but long-distance swims may exact a greater metabolic toll than standing or walking on ice in better weather.
They said their observations suggested the bears drowned in rough seas and high winds and "suggest that drowning-related deaths of polar bears may increase in the future if the observed trend of regression of pack ice and/or longer open water periods continues."
The article and presentations drew national attention and helped make the polar bear something of a poster child for the global warming movement. Al Gore's mention of the polar bear in his documentary on climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth," came up during investigators' questioning of Gleason in January.
In May 2008, the U.S. classified the polar bear as a threatened species, the first with its survival at risk due to global warming.
According to a transcript, investigator Eric May asked Gleason his thoughts on Gore referencing the dead polar bears. Gleason said none of the polar bear papers he has written or co-authored has said "anything really" about global warming.
"It's something along the lines of the changing environment in the Arctic," he said.
Gleason said others put their own spin on research or observations.
The complaint alleges Gleason and Monnett were harassed by agency officials and received negative comments from them after the article was published. Gleason eventually took another Interior Department job; he didn't respond to an email and a BOEMRE spokeswoman said he wouldn't be available for comment.
Ruch also claimed the investigation is being done by criminal investigators with no scientific background, even though the case is an administrative matter.

Intellectual Ventures buys and collects patents from inventors, creating a huge ?warehouse of inventions? that companies can pay for and use if they wish. In fact, Intellectual Ventures claims they are the exact opposite of patent trolls as they are on the inventors? side. As such, they themselves, so they constantly claim, do not initiate patent infringement suits.

But with the rise of patent trolls, arguably like Intellectual Ventures, according to?TAL, the patent system isn?t promoting innovation, but stifling it.
Because as noble as Intellectual Ventures? claims are, protecting patents does not mean protecting invention.
?We?re at a point in the state of intellectual property where existing patents probably cover every behavior that?s happening on the Internet or our mobile phones today,? says Chris Sacca, a venture capitalist. ?[T]he averageSilicon Valleystart-up or even medium sized company, no matter how truly innovative they are, I have no doubt that aspects of what they?re doing violate patents right now. And that?s what?s fundamentally broken about this system right now.?

I am sure anyone who has expected a baby completely understands.? Right now, I am 33 weeks and on cruise control until I hit full term and start seeing my doctor every week.? My mother delivered both my older brother and I 10 days early so, I am prepping for doing the same...even if I don't, better safe than sorry.? A friend of ours co-owns it.? They brew their own beer and instead of baby shower favors (that no one ever takes home yet you spend too much money on), we paid for the beer.? It was a great day and we had an amazing time with family especially family from out of town.? We planned it the same weekend as my brother's wedding so everyone would be in to celebrate with us.??
